New year = New Beginnings

Yesterday I spent about 5 hours on my home campus working with new teachers.  It was an amazing day.  I love the energy at the beginning of the year.  Enthusiasm is high and it feels like I can do anything I put my mind to.  the awesome thing is that it is not just my enthusiasm.  It is almost 100% across all faculty and staff.  We are renewing work relationships and friendships, planning for classes and for the entire year, and the anticipation of the first day with students is firmly planted and growing.

This is it.  It is GO time.  It is time to script the first day, readjust sleep schedules, and organize the classroom.  If you follow me on Google+  checkout the videos I will be highlighting over the next week or so.  They are specific to this time of year.  and may help you save some time and make some things a little easier for you.

My anxiety level is high.  This year I plan on including you in my journey through anxiety and the menatlups ad downs that I usually try to mask from others.  Anxiety and extreme emotional lows have been part of my life for over 30 years now.  I don't have any answers, but I do know that knowing I am not alone out there has helped me cope.  I hope that by sharing these challenges I face it might help someone else as well.  Of course I am not making this part of my journey the sole or even the main focus of the year.  I am going to simply include it with the awesome information that i continue to find, that I wish I had known when I started this career.

New Summer Challenges and Reflection

I have got to start doing more than one pos a year.  the last post I made was towards the end of summer school last years.  Well summer school just ended for me this year.  It has been a very strange year for all of us.  the district I work for offered free online summer school this year.  We used the online software package that had been adapted from our Credit Recovery program to fill the last grading period when all the schools closed for Covid-19.  Ideally a student would simply work their way through the first half of the online curriculum in the three weeks of summer school and the score would reflect their mastery of first semester skills.  I held two Zoom meetings a day to supplement instruction and offer specific tutoring. This was not exactly how it worked out. Subscribe, Watch and Comment

I am banking information videos so that I will be able to release one a week along with the daily Vlog entries I plan on doing.  This morning I videoed 15 new segments, including four parts of a new series focused on strategic goofing around with your students, "How to Be Cooler Than Your Students." Each installment will offer something you can do to deliberately make yourself more accessible to the students' minds and help them see you as the human being you are. I am gearing up for a busy year and I want to continue to bring quality information to you and other teachers.  Keep watching and commenting, please. Gamers, Teachers, and Spotify

 I tried something new today.  I reviewed the music service Spotify.  The format I used was the same that many gamers and software trainers use.  The viewer watches the software being used while the instructor is located in a smaller window narrating what is being done on the computer, usually in the lower right of the screen.   Checkout the current videos https://goo.gl/EEpJhd It was not a colossal fail.  It was good enough to post.  I also included an interactive survey at 4:30 into the video that simply asks if I should try this format again.  I hope people take the time to check an answer.
